When I was born my grandma made me a sweater, bonnet and booties. Unfortunately she passed away in January 2009 so she wasn't able to meet Teagan. I was able to tell her a week before she passed away that Stan and I were expecting a baby, I was so glad that I was at least able to tell her before she died. Because I was only about a month pregnant when I told her we didn't know what we were having. For my baby shower my mom gave me the sweater, bonnet and booties that my grandma made for me, for Teagan. I was so touched. Even though Teagan will never get to meet her I feel like in a way she can connect with her. I can't wait to tell Teagan all about her. She would have loved her so much. I can't believe how much Teagan has grown, she has almost grown out of this sweater. I had to get a photo shoot of her wearing it. Thank you grandma...

Teagan's First Christmas

Teagan's first Christmas was a hit. The only negative was Stan had to work Christmas Eve and Christmas day (luckily Teagan was too young this year to know any better). Next year will be so much fun because she will be older and hopefully understand a little more.

Christmas Eve we celebrated with Stan's family, it was great to see everyone. Teagan even got to meet Aunt Shelly for the first time while she was visiting. It was so nice to see her, we wish she lived closer!

3 Months Old

Here are some stats on Teagan at 3 months old:

She is just now in size 1 diapers

She fits in her 3 month clothes

She sleeps throught the night (10-12 hours every night) I am so thankful!

She takes 3 to 4 short naps during the day, about 40 minutes each

Her hair is starting to grow in, she is such a fuzz head, it is so cute!

She "Stands like a big girl" when you hold her up, the look on her face is priceless, she is so pround of herself

She is starting to grab things with ther hands

She is starting the teething process, she is gumming everything she can and drooling like crazy

Teagan is so happy when she wakes up in the morning, she lays in her crib and coos and talks. When I walk in to get her she has a big smile for me, I love it!

In December we went to Tiana's Dance recital. She did such a good job, she was so cute in her tap shoes. Here are some pictures after at grandma and grandpa Bradshaw's house (Teagan was sporting a dance outfit and ballet shoes that grandma Bradshaw got her when we found out she was a girl)

Since I am so behind I just want to note that Teagan was 2 1/2 months in these photos.

Thank you to Aunt Christy who sent this adorable sock monkey hat, a birthday present for Teagan, all the way from England! We hope Teagan can meet her Aunt Christy soon. Thank you so much Christy, I love it! It arrived just in time for winter, Teagan has worn it a lot.

We had such a nice Thanksgiving, this year we have even more to be thankful for. Stan and I both have such wonderful families and we are so thankful that we were able to add to our family. Teagan had such a great day, she got to see both sets of her grandparents, great grandparents, aunts and uncles (although she missed Aunt Shelly and Aunt Christy) her cousin Tiana, and her second cousins Drew and Isaac.

One of my best friend's Taeler and her husband Dana welcomed a little girl, Raegan, to their family on November 14. She was 7lbs. 4oz and 20 in. All are doing well, and Teagan is so glad to have a new friend.

What a difference a month makes! I can't believe the difference between 1 month and 2 months old. She is such a happy baby, she laughs, smiles, coos and is so alert. She is starting to grab at things. She always wants you to walk around so she can see everything, she does not like to be sitting still for too long. She loves sitting in her bumbo seat like a big girl, she is so proud of herself. She is sleeping in her crib, all night long!!! It is great. She loves her sleep sacks. She loves bath time which is great as well.

At her 2 month check up this month she weighed 10lbs, was 22.5in and her head was 39cm. She was in the 50th percentile, right in the middle. The pediatrician is happy with her growth.

She got her first round of shots, it was so sad, I have never heard he cry like that. I am not looking forward to having to do that to her again in a couple of months.

Because I have so much to catch up on I thought I would start by telling you all about Teagan in her 2 1/2 months of life...

I'm not going to lie, the first 5 weeks were a little rough. I never thought it was possible to be so exhausted. Teagan was completely nocturnal, she would sleep all day and was up all night. We tried everything to keep her awake during the day but nothing worked, she slept through everything. She has been a good sleeper since she was born, it just wasn't the hours I preferred. She would finally go to sleep at 6 or 7 am and sleep for 4 to 5 hours. I am glad to report that she is now sleeping at night and is a great sleeper.

She didn't really care for her bassinet, she only slept in it for about a week. For about 3 weeks she would only sleep on me in the recliner in the living room. From there she preferred to sleep in her swing, she would sleep in it all night, it was the only way I could get her to sleep. It didn't fit in our bedroom so I slept in the living room on the couch so I could be with her. At about 9 weeks old she started to sleep in her crib and I was able to sleep in my bed again! It has been so nice.

She is such a good baby, she is happy and easy going. She loves to smile and laugh. Here are some of her milestones so far...

We were all so glad to finally leave the hospital after 5 days, Teagan was 3 days old. My hormones were were so out of wack, I would cry at the drop of a hat. Stan was so amused at the things I would cry at (or lack thereof). Once we dressed Teagan in her going home outfit it was all over, the tears started flowing. Once the wheel chair came I thought I would be ok, but no...I cried the whole way through the lobby all the way to the car while holding Teagan. People were staring at me, I'm sure wondering what was wrong with me and my baby. They were tears of joy, I was so happy, but just looking at Teagan would make me cry. That lasted for about 4 weeks, it got worse once the lack of sleep kicked in too.

Ok I know, I am ridiculously far behind on my blog...needless to say we have had a life changing event that has taken up all of our time. I will do my best to get caught up. I feel like I have been in a time warp for the last 2 1/2 months, it is all a blur (especially the first month) Here is what we have been busy with for the past 2 1/2 months...Our pride and Joy!

Teagan Grace Bradshaw

I went into Labor on Saturday 9-12-09 at home around noon. Of course Stan had a double shift that day at work. My contractions progressed pretty quickly, I called Stan and told him he may have to come home, and he did. I wanted to stay at home as long as I could (because of my fear of hospitals). We finally decided to go to the hospital around 7pm. We got checked in, and I was dilated to 3cm so they admitted me. It wasn't much longer and I had my epidural (which I did so much better than I expected with that and the IV). I was now dilated 5 cm, and was happy at how fast everything was progressing. The night had come and gone and I was still at 5cm and the baby hadn't dropped down at all. They administered pitocin to try to intensify my contractions. After 3 hours nothing had changed, they feared she may not fit through my pelvis and it was decided the best way to deliver her was by C-Section. I was very apprehensive at first, but realized this was the best option, and at that point, after 21 hours of labor, I was so exhausted and anxious to meet her.

Once they injected morphine into my epidural the rest is kind of a blur, Stan is still amazed at how fast they delivered Teagan and at what a uterus looks like! Teagan was born at 10:40am. Once I heard her cry, I lost it and started crying, it was such an amazing experience, I couldn't believe we had finally met our little girl.

The first few days recovering from a c-section was pretty rough, but once I was home I got around better than I imagined. Stan has been amazing, he is the best dad in the whole world. He loves Teagan more than anything and you could tell by the minute she was born that she was daddy's little girl. He had two weeks off of work and helped out so much with everything, I couldn't have gotten through those two weeks without him. I cried the night he had to go back to work. And thanks to my mom who was also a huge help for us with Teagan and around the house to help with everyday duties.

This was by far the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, and it was so worth it. I never thought it was possible to love something so much. Stan and I are so grateful to have her in our lives. We are looking forward to our new journey as a family.

Well Teagan is officially past her due date...I know, only one day but it seems like a lot longer than that. Apparently she wants to make a grand entrance since she has so many people anxiously waiting to meet her. We will be happy to meet her whenever she arrives. Teagan is going to use the bassinet that has been in our family for 36 years. Nana bought it for my cousin Bryan when he was born and since then my cousin Amanda has used it, me, Lacy Grant and various friends of the family have borrowed it. All the names are written on the bottom with the dates that they used it. I am the first one to have my baby use it, so Teagan is the first of her generation. My uncle Rick painted it and reinforced it, so it is in pretty good shape for it's age. I can't wait to add Teagan's name to the list!

38 Weeks

Here are some pictures of me at 38 weeks (I am now 38.5 weeks). I am counting down the days. I not miserable yet, just anxious, and starting to get a little nervous. The unknown scares me a little, not knowing what to expect, or when to expect it, the thought of not being in control is unsettling. But I know it will all be worth it once we get to meet her.

Teagan's room is almost finished...I finally got a call on Friday that the crib is in route and should be to the store in 5-7 business days. That is the last piece to her room. I can't believe how long it took to get it. Hopefully it comes next week. She won't be using it for a little while, she will be in a bassinet, but it would be nice to have it and have the room finished before she arrives.

36 Weeks

I coming down the final stretch, I have about 3 1/2 weeks to go if she is on schedule for September 10th. We can't wait to meet her. She has really been kicking me and moving around. I still feel good, I am just anxious to meet her. I now have weekly doctors appointments so we will see how everything is progressing. Her room is almost finished (pictures to come when it is complete) I still don't have her crib (it is still on back order) they tell me it will be in by the end of the month but we will see. At least I received the changer combo and dresser. She will be in a bassinet for a a little while (the bassinet I was in as a baby) so I can make due without the crib, but it would be nice to have it all completed before she arrives. I don't have any pictures of him yet, I forgot to take my camera to the hospital. He is so cute and looks a lot like his brother Drew. I wish all the best to the new family.

Stan's Long Awaited Man Cave

Last summer when Stan and I made the decision to start a family we also decided in order to do that we needed to make some room for an addition to our family. We decided to convert our detached garage into our office/Stan's man cave. We actually started the dog run as our first project last summer (pics will come later, it still is not complete because the dogs broke out of the gate) then when we found out in January that we were expecting we knew we needed to get started on the Man cave, well that didn't actually happen until about a month and a half ago. we were trying to do as much of it on our own to save money, but with Stan's work schedule it made it hard to work on it and get help. A huge thank you to Stan's dad, Monte, who helped him the last month with the electrical, and drywall, they worked really hard to get it down quickly to satisfy the hormonal pregnant one! Stan insulated, and painted, and we did an epoxy finish on the floor which turned out very nice.

What was stressing me out was n order to do the baby's room we needed to finish the man cave so we could move our office out there. Nothing like down to the wire! Stan is pretty much set up in there and is so happy in his "sanctuary". My office is not organized at all, everything is just thrown out there because my priority has been the baby's room, someday I will get out there to organize it. Baby Shower

I have been a blog slacker, but as you will see from my marathon post we have been crazy/busy the last month getting ready for Teagan's arrival...

Two weeks ago on August 2nd I had my baby shower. It was so much fin and turned out so beautifully. I owe a special thanks to my sister, Jen, Mom, Aunt Patti, Aunt Lorie, Nana, my friends...Liz, Taeler, and Lori for making such a wonderful event. They put so much time and effort into planning this day, I am so grateful to have such wonderful family and friends. And thank you to all that attended, I got so many great gifts, clothes, and diapers, I am set for awhile. It was great to see everyone, thank you all so much! Here are some pictures...

32 Weeks

I am now starting my 8th month! Time has really gone by so fast. I feel good, I am just anxious because I am impatient and I want to meet her. Although I am fine with having about 8 more weeks to get ready, we are not quite where I was hoping to be at this point with the house, but we are close. The man cave is almost ready to move into (pictures to follow at a later post). Then I can start on the nursery even though the crib, furniture and bedding is still not in yet, it was supposed to be in by now so it is making me a little nervous, but we still have time so I'm sure it will all be fine.

I can really feel her moving around and kicking, it is such an amazing feeling. It is weird to look down and see your stomach moving. She has some pretty powerful kicks!

Last week I received a phone call from my doctors office that my doctor is taking a personal leave of absence until November and I have to choose a new doctor! This isn't exactly news I wanted to hear as I am approaching the home stretch. I really like my doctor, but I know all the doctors in the practice are good too. I also know the chances of my doctor being on rotation when I deliver are slim so I would probably end up with one of the other doctors anyway. It's just frustrating to build a relationship over the last eight months and not get to finish my pregnancy with her. I have one more appointment with her next week before she leaves so maybe I will get some more details.

Baby Classes

The last three weeks Stan and I have started taking baby classes at the hospital. It has been very informative and a little frightening...there is soooo much information. I am hoping once she is here instincts will kick in and we will get the hang of being new parents. So far we have taken a childbirth class and a breastfeeding class. We have a couple more classes to take, baby care basics like bathing, diapering, etc. So far it has been fun, informative, and a good bonding experience for the three of us. It is making reality set in, that we don't have much longer now until she arrives. We are very anxious and excited and can't wait to meet her!

4th of July

I know, I am a little behind on the blog updates. The last couple of weeks have been crazy.

Stan had the 4th of July off this year, which is always nice because it is one of his favorite holidays. We had a nice relaxing day which was what we both needed. We just hung out, just the two of us at home and watched the dodger game, then went out to dinner. Later that night we set off fireworks at out house (they are still legal in Lakewood) our street always has a lot of fireworks. It was nice to be home with the dogs as well, surprisingly they did really well. They were out in the front yard with us and didn't seem to mind the fireworks.

The Grand Finale

28 Weeks...The 3rd Trimester

I am entering my 3rd and final trimester, I can't believe it, it really seems like it has gone by so fast. I am still feeling great, we'll see if that continues as we get closer to September 1oth. We had our hospital orientation/tour a couple of weeks ago which made it seem much more real. We are so excited and anxious to meet her although we still have a lot to do to get ready for her arrival. I'm sure these next couple of months are going to fly by. Ready or not I know she will be here before we know it, and we can't wait!

Stan and I have always wanted matching La-zy boys to relax in but it has never really been on the top of our priority list. Until...last week we received a coupon in the mail from Lazy Boy with buy one recliner get one free. The promotion was good for only one weekend and select models. We assumed the models would be their less desirable inventory that they were just trying to get rid of but we thought we would go and check it out. Neither of us anticipated that we would actually buy anything. As it turns out, one of the models was a really nice chair. It is a leather rocker/recliner. It was so comfortable, and it was an incredible deal we just couldn't pass up. So we decided to do it, and we got one of them for free. We LOVE them! They are so comfortable and they will come in handy for those upcoming middle of the night feedings.

Air Conditioning

A little over a month ago we had forced heating and air conditioning installed and I must say it is one of the best investments we have made. Thanks to "June Gloom" we really haven't had to use it that much, but the few days that we have I must say it is totally worth it. The only advantage to having a small house is that is doesn't take much to cool it down.

I know it will come in handy the next couple of months, I am hoping it will make the final stretch of pregnancy more comfortable for me!

2009 National Champions! Go Dawgs!

Washington softball has finally accomplished what it has set out to do since it's inaugural season in 1992, win it's first National Championship! I am so happy for Coach Heather Tarr, the team and all the alumni who have helped pave the way to such an accomplishment.

When I went on my recruiting trip to Washington, I knew before I even returned home that that is where I wanted to be. The since of pride and tradition the team had in such a short amount of time was wonderful. I really enjoyed my years there. It was a lot of hard work, a lot of blood, sweat, and tears but it was all worth it. I have to say, the best thing about my experience there was the life long friendships I created there. I am so fortunate to keep in touch with so many of my former teammates and other friends. We all share a special bond that we will keep with us throughout our lifetime.

Washington has knocked on the door to the championship so many times. Playing for the national title in 1996 and 1999 but coming up short, and making numerous College World Series appearances. I was fortunate enough to play for the 1999 team, and I have to say coming in second is not much fun. I know, second in the nation is still quite an accomplishment, but it's not 1st. I am so proud that Washington was finally able to bring the title and Trophy home to Seattle. It is an accomplishment shared and enjoyed with the entire Husky Family.

I was fortunate enough to spend a year with now Coach Heather Tarr. She played at Washington and was a graduate assistant my freshman year. She is an amazing person, always positive, a great player and mentor. I am so happy for her to win the title.

25 Weeks

The Big 3-0!!

That's right...May 18th was my 30th Birthday. I am entering a new decade. This year will be full of milestones, with this and welcoming our first baby. I welcome and look forward to it all.

It was just like any other day, working, except my business partners Duane and Debra brought pizza and cake to the office and we had a little party. It was a nice surprise, they are so awesome!

I had dinner at my parents house with Stan, Grant and Jen. Stan even made me my favorite cake, angel food. Yep, that's right! Well I guess it was a team effort, he made it and I frosted it.

Last Friday I got together with my friends at Liz's house and barbecued and hung out. It has been a fun few days. I have such a wonderful friends and family.

We found out we are having a girl! We didn't have a preference either way if it was a boy or a girl, but now that we know we are so excited. Now I can start planning...one of my favorite things to do.

Stan's mom bought these adorable shoes, I can't wait to see them on her. My mom has also bought some cute clothes already. Can you say spoiled?? It is going to be so much fun. Our little girl is so loved already, we can't wait to meet her!

20 Weeks...half way there!

Here is an update of my growing belly at 20 weeks. I can't believe we are halfway there. It has gone by pretty fast so far, and I have a feeling September will be here before we know it. I still have to survive the summer heat!

We had our 20 week ultrasound and everything seemed to be coming along just fine. I have a doctors appointment on Thursday to go over the results but the technician didn't seem concerned about anything so I hope that is good. The heartbeat was normal (145 bpm), and the due date was the same (one day off).

We are so excited to meet our little one!

April 8, 2006...I can't believe it was 3 years ago that we were married. We had such a fun time at our wedding. We are looking forward to the next phase of our life...parenthood! We are so excited to start our family.

I had such a good time reminiscing through these photos. What was funny was finding the picture from Stan's senior prom in 1995! We have known each other for 14 years! How time flies!

17 Weeks

Here are a few pictures of me at 17 weeks. So far the 2nd Trimester has been what everyone has told me it would be. It is great, I feel great, I have more energy and now I can see the physical changes taking place.

Although I must say that this week was a little annoying. I went in for my second round of lab work (I am counting down because I hate it so much). I made it through without passing out which was very exciting. I left with such a sense of relief...until the lab called me a few hours later to tell me they had "lost" my sample and I needed to come back in to re-draw. At that moment I didn't know whether to scream or cry. I know...what a baby! For most people it would be no big deal, but unfortunately I am not most people, I am a freak and I have a real phobia of needles. I even tried hypnotherapy last summer, which was really corny but I was desperate to try anything. It's not the needle itself...I know it doesn't hurt, it is just the anxiety I get from being there and the thought of what they are doing. I think this incident was someones attempt to help me overcome my phobia. Maybe when this is all said and done I won't have an issue with it anymore, which would be great!

So anyway...enough of that, here are some pictures.

My cousin, Amanda, and I are expecting together. She is expecting her second son (Drew is 17 months) and she is 1 month ahead of me. Which is ironic because our moms were pregnant with both of us at the same time (she is two months older than me) so I guess it would make sense that we are expecting together also.

Well, it is official and we have a picture to prove it. Stan and I are expecting our first baby in September. This picture was taken about 2 weeks ago, I was 13 weeks. I am now almost 16 weeks. So far everything has been going well, I can't complain too much! We found out on New Years Eve and have been so excited ever since. I am glad to be through the first trimester, and I am feeling better and have more energy. This is what I experienced during the first trimester: (for my journal purposes)

-Really bad cold

-Pink eye

-Flu

-Rash/hives

-Really bad acne (I feel like I am going through puberty again)!

-I didn't start feeling nauseous until I was 7 weeks, pretty much from them to about 14 weeks I had a constant nauseous feeling (I only threw up once though)!

Now I am feeling so much better and I am looking forward to the remainder of my pregnancy. We are very anxious to find out what we are having!

We are looking forward to our new journey!

February was a busy month for babies being born into the world. A few of my friends had babies within a couple of weeks of each other and last weekend we were able to get together to meet them all. Well it finally happened, a week overdue and after 36 hours of labor, we were able to meet little Baxter. One of my dearest friends, Liz and her husband Derek welcomed their first child into the world on February 26th. It was such a surprise because they didn't know what they were having. They were so glad to finally meet him, all 10lbs. 7oz!!! He is a big healthy boy! And look at that full head of hair! He is so precious.

Congratulations Liz and Derek, he is beautiful. And way to go Liz on that delivery, you are amazing!

Barbara Jean Hauxhurst

I have been procrastinating on making this post because it is not a particularly fun topic. I have been wanting to post in honor of my late grandma, I just haven't been able to to do it until now.

On January 16, 2009 my grandma passed away from her battle with Lung and Pancreatic Cancer. It was a short battle, but still a battle. She was diagnosed in November of 2008 and opted to forgo any treatments. I miss her terrribly, but I find comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering and that she is now reunited with my grandpa again after 9 years.

One of the things I admired most about my grandma was her unwaivering strength and her unconditional love. Those of you who knew her, know precisely what I'm talking about. She had a way of being a rock for the people she loved... and handling her own struggles with grace. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, step mother and friend. She spent her life caring, raising, and providing... even when it seemed unfair, she never faltered.

Something else I loved about my grandma was her sense of humor. She was witty and sarcastic, if you didn't get her humor it was probably because you were the butt of one of her jokes! She loved to laugh, even at herself.

My grandma went above and beyond the call of "grandmotherly duties". She traveled year after year to some of the most undesireable places to watch us play softball or soccer. She endured seemingly endless drives, unrelenting heat, rain and snow and even forgave my Dad when he booked her on the wrong flight and left her at the airport. All to support her grandkids and show her pride and love for us. I can only hope we did the same to show our pride and love for her.

I have so many fond memories of her that I will always cherish, here are a couple...my grandma loved roller coasters. When we were younger we would go to Magic Mountain every summer, and she rode all the rides...even when we weren't tall enough to ride, she would still go on! I don't know too many grandma's who would do that. Magic Mountain will always remind me of her.

In all her travels to watch us play softball, there was one tournament in particular that stands out. Lacy and I were scheduled to play against each other in a tournament in Georgia. She made a sweatshirt with both of our pictures on it that said "Hauxhurst Softball." She wore it all the time, and it meant so much to us (see picture below).

Her fight with cancer was short. Even though she was sick her passing was still quite a shock. It was painful to watch, but I'd like to believe God spared her much suffering. And while we're saddened with her loss, I find comfort in the thought that she can now rest peacefully.

You will be terribly missed, but never forgotten. I love you!

R.I.P. Jack 2001-2009

It's with a sad heart that I tell you that on Monday morning January 12, 2009 my parent's English Bulldog "Jack" passed away.

A few months ago he had a series of seizures and the vet finally determined that he had a tumor on his heart that would eventually kill him.

On Monday Jack died while sleeping on the Living Room couch. He passed peacefully while in his sleep and thankfully didn't feel any pain.

Jack will be sorely missed by myself and my entire family. He was a loyal friend and companion and will always be remembered for his stubborn but playful attitude.

This year New Year's Eve happened to fall on one of Stan's nights off so it was great to be able to spend it together with our friends and my sister. We went to Liz's family's beach house for the night. It was great to relax and have a great time without having to worry about driving and being on the road. We made dinner, played games, played the Wii and the best part of all was that we stayed in our PJ's all night! New Years morning we woke up, took a walk to the beach and relaxed until we headed out that afternoon. It was a great way to ring in 2009.

Homer and Maddie Love Christmas

Christmas Eve morning I ran a few last minute errands. Stan was home sleeping which is usually a safe time to leave the dogs in the house. I came home, and at first everything appeared to be normal, Maddie was greeting me at the door, doing the "Maddie mambo" (when she wags her tail so hard her whole body wiggles), she had a toy in her mouth...or at least what I thought was a toy. At a close glance I realized it was a gift bag she had found under the Christmas tree. So I took it from her and said "No, bad girl" and proceeded to walk in the door. That is when I noticed two other packages in the middle of the living room floor torn up and wrapping paper off. They had taken it upon themselves to open presents. Then my "no, bad girl" became very loud and had profanity added to it. I set my things down and walked into the hallway. I saw Stan sitting up in bed, woken up and confused, he asked "what did she do" so I told him "she ate the presents" he then replied "all of them?" and I said "I don't know, does it matter?"

I went to the tree to take inventory, everything seemed to be OK, then I realized my brothers present was missing entirely. I knew that could only mean one thing...she took it outside! I went to back door, looked out the window and sure enough, there was his present torn to pieces in the yard, not just the wrapping but the whole present. I got a PS3 video game, the case was destroyed in to pieces and the DVD was on the ground. I can not even describe how mad I was at that point in time. And of course she was standing next to me so proud of what she had done.

Amazingly the game was in tack just appeared to be scratched. Stan played it and it seemed to be working fine, I just couldn't give it to my brother looking like that. So Stan went out and bought a new one for Grant, and he'll keep the damaged one for himself.

All in all the damage could have been worse, I just had to re-wrap a few presents, and Stan got an additional present. It is just so incredibly frustrating that they are 3 1/2 and are still destructive puppies! They were doing so well...the only thing I can think of is that with all the rain we have had the last couple of weeks they have been couped up in the house so they have pent up energy.

On a happier note we spent Christmas Eve with my family and Christmas day with Stan's family which was nice. His sister Shelly is here from North Carolina and we haven't seen her since last Christmas, which has been way too long. Of course Tiana was the entertainment, she says the funniest things, she has such a personality. She looked so cute in her little dress and the new purse she got.

The End of an Era

For Christmas Stan and I got ourselves new bedroom furniture. It was long overdue. It is the first furniture we have bought since we have been married which was very exciting. We got the most comfortable bed a few years ago (thanks Marty) but we never had a bed frame for it. I have been looking at bedroom sets for a while however it has never been a priority. So for Christmas we decided to splurge and go for it.

But the main motivation for the furniture was Stan's dresser. His dresser was the first and only dresser he has ever owned, he has had it since he was a little boy. For years he has needed a new one but has not wanted to part with it. It is one of the few things he is sentimental about. The dresser just was not functional anymore. Most of the drawers were broken and couldn't even hold clothes in them so he piled his clothes on top of the dresser. It took a lot of convincing to get the new furniture, what finally sold him was that he could keep his old dresser and put it in his "man cave" that he will soon be building in the garage. So it is a win/win for all. I love our new furniture, and even Stan said it was nice to have a functional dresser. It is a little big for our room and really only fits in there one way but it will work.

Back From the Dead

During the summer I planted roses and flowers in our front yard. I really don't have a green thumb but I thought I would attempt. Just as I feared...they died. About a month ago I decided before ripping them all out and starting over I would try to revive them. To my surprise, after trimming back, turning soil and fertilizing, they have started to come back to life. I was so excited! I never thought I would be excited about gardening and roses but it is a rewarding feeling when the yard looks nice. We'll see how long they last this time...

No, that is not a bear shot dead lying in our backyard...it is only Homer. He couldn't be happier that our backyard is all torn up, he LOVES dirt and filth! His happiness is my Anxiety attack! Every chance he gets he is out there laying in the dirt. I can't keep anything clean, it is a constant battle. I can't wait until we have grass again, but for now Homer can enjoy himself.

Operation Dog Run...Mission Failed!!

So for the past 6 MONTHS we have been working diligently in our backyard. Our plans include building a dog run, new lawn, sprinklers and landscaping (pictures of our progress to follow). We have been trying to do as much of it ourselves as possible to save some money, however, it is taking forever. For those who know me know I am not the most patient person, so this project has really been a test for me. Stan has worked so hard thus far but due to his work schedule the time he has to work on this is limited. The good news is that we finished the dog run a few weeks ago ( we only have a few cosmetic things to do like trim the posts down and out the post caps on, but it is functional for now). The dogs seem to love it...at least while we are out there with them. So we decided to try it out. A few weeks ago we put them out there and ran and errand that only took about 10 minutes. This is what happened in 10 minutes...

We spent weeks debating on what type of fencing to put up, chain link seemed like the most practical, economical and the most "Maddie Proof", but we decided to go with the wood fence because it is the most aesthetically pleasing option even though we knew we were taking a risk of the dogs chewing it up. So now we are going back to the drawing board to figure out a way to reinforce it. There is just nothing these dogs can't destroy. But for some reason I still love them!

Stan worked Halloween night, but before he went to work we got a visit from Dorothy and her dog Toto. Tiana made a perfect Dorothy, and Stan's sister and mom made her costume. They are so talented!

When Tiana received candy she would say, "Thank you for your candy". Too cute!!

Stan's sister Christy was in town last week visiting all the way from Germany! It was so nice to see her. She came to visit last April too so we have been lucky to have her visit twice this year! We hope we can make it to Germany to visit her before she moves again. Regrettably we didn't get any pictures with her while she was here, because it is very hard to compete with a niece as adorable as Tiana! We went to dinner at BJ's Pizza and of course had a pizzookie (you can't go there without getting one). As you can see Tiana thoroughly enjoyed hers, she had chocolate everywhere...on her face, hands, clothes, our clothes. We were all engaged in a conversation and apparently weren't paying attention. She got our attention by yelling very slowly "I need a napkin!" We looked over at her and saw the chocolate all over her face.

Later Tiana entertained us all with her performance of Shirley Temple's Good Ship Lollipop. She was so excited to wear her tap shoes (even though it looked like she was on ice skates). She did such a good job. She had to be introduced of course, "Ladies and Gentleman introducing Shirley Temple..."

She is such a funny girl. She has the cutest personality, we just can't get enough of her! Thank you Lizzie and David for having such an adorable daughter!

Happy 80th Birthday Boppy

A couple of weeks ago was Boppy's (my grandpa) 80th Birthday. We celebrated by throwing a big party for him, he had quite a turnout. He grew up here in Long Beach, went to Wilson High School, was on the Long Beach Fire department, and still has so many friends from grade school, high school, and the fire department here in Long Beach. Not many people can say that. They all still get together every week. You can't go anywhere in Long Beach without someone knowing Whitey Thomson.

Following is a poem that Nana's sister, Aunt Peggy, wrote and read at his party. I thought it was a very touching poem and summed him up very nicely.

Palm Springs

Well it only took us a year but we finally made it out to Palm Springs this past weekend to visit Lacy and Brent. I know...I am a bad sister but working most weekends and Stan and I having opposite work schedules has made it difficult, not to mention Lacy and Brent are in our neck of the woods a few weekends a month for different occasions. We had such a good time, it was nice to relax and enjoy their company. They have such a cute place.

Our trip was cut a bit short due to our mom having emergency surgery to remove her gall bladder. The surgery went well and after spending a few days in the hospital we are glad she is doing well and was able to go home last night. She should have a speedy recovery.

Punch Him While He's Down...

I know we need a life, it seems all we have going on in our lives is our dogs...while this is partly true, the past three weeks have especially been consumed by the recovery of Homer's surgery. As if he wasn't going through enough, this past Sunday he had another ailment. He woke me up Sunday morning about 6:30, he was very restless, I got out of bed to see what was going on, it was dark but I could tell he was hysterically rubbing his face on the carpet, being as how he has demonstrated this behavior in the past I knew it wasn't good news. Still not being able to see I put my hand on his face and felt the golf ball sized lump on his eye. I knew right then he had either been stung or bitten by something. Stan had let him out for about 10 minutes when he got home so it must have happened in that short window. I turned on the light to see his poor face swollen, puffy and breaking out in hives, it looked like he had been punched in the face. Of course this has to happen on a Sunday morning when only the emergency animal hospitals are available. Since this has happened to him before a couple of years ago I knew they would give him a few injections and a few hundred dollars later we would be on our way. So I called our local emergency animal hospital and the office visit alone was $130, not including all the meds he was going to get. After a long inner debate I checked Homer and he was breathing fine so it appeared his throat wasn't closing up so I decided to just give him some Benadryl. I kept an eye on him and the swelling went down in a few hours. So now we know when this happens again (and it is bound to) we don't need to spend the money at the vet as long as he is breathing ok, Benadryl does the trick!

Poor little guy...he has had a rough couple of weeks. And I am convinced this dog is going to give me an ulcer!

I think he was embarrassed by the way he looked! Either that or he was just tired of me checking his face.

Homer got his big boot off a few days ago and he is pretty self conscious about his wimpy looking chicken leg. Everyday he puts a little more weight on his leg and I have no doubt he will soon be back in top form and striking fear into anyone foolish enough to deliver mail, or pizza to the front door. As you can see there was some chafing on his leg from his bandage, and he is going to have a bitchin' scar on the inside of his knee. No there isn't a more pathetic sight than a Newf with a lampshade collar on.

Bionic Dog...

Here are some pictures of Homer after the third surgery of his life on Aug 27. He has now had all four of his legs surgically repaired, and the two rear legs have titanium plates and screws in the knees making him part dog, and part machine. He has torn both his ACL's in his rear legs and the surgical procedure to repair them is called a tibial tuberosity advancement. If you want more info on this surgery go to this website for a good explanation. If you want some bloody pictures of a dog having the same surgery along with good pictures of all the hardware now in Homer's knees go to this website and scroll down to the bottom.

Homer's fine now, just a little groggy from his pain medication. When the meds wear off in the next few days he will be very irratible and highly pissed off about the full length leg bandage on his new bionic leg. The leg bandage will be taken off on Tuesday Sep 2 and his stitches will be taken out a week later. If this recovery is anything like his last surgery he will be back to his usual shenanigans in about two weeks and back to full duty in about six to eight weeks.

You can really see the glassy look in Homer's eye's in the above picture. Totally out of it.

As you can see the biggest dog crate in the world has returned to our tiny tiny living room. It's hard to tell in this picture but the cage Homer is lying in is about six feet tall and ten feet long. It's really a behemoth.
